It may not be too wrong to presume, that 120 years ago, one was very happy to arrive in Fort McPherson. Normally you just had some drudgery and rough going and maybe one or two natives (some of them dead) behind you on your way up there. Things are a bit different in February 2008. Stopping in Fort McPherson wasn’t what the Wrecking Crew was out there for. But what can you do, when the lights are flashing on a sign, that says, when lights are flashing on this sign, don’t proceed. You’re stuck. And so the journey ends just after a few kilometers.

Forced stopover at the local gasbarkioskhotel. And nobody knows for how long. Not even the driver of the yellow Peterbilt-Truck (or as the pros say: “Pete”): Dexter Turney. He’s a regular on the Dempster. And he knows one thing for sure: If lights are flashing you sure better stop. “This must be one hell of a blizzard ahead. Usually they let us drive with visibility of under 30 meters, so when they say no go, boy, then you better don’t go.”

OK, then let’s make the best of this stop. How about a drive-in movie? Today’s quadruple feature: Legendary trapper-movie “Jeremiah Johnson”, Guy Ritchie’s Gangster-Flick “Lock, stock and two smoking barrels”, the spartan hi-gloss-splatter-movie “300″ and “Getting any?”, Takeshi Kitanos absurd comedy about how sexy a car can be. After that: hit the sack.
